The Joint ACAC/ICAO EUR/NAT Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP) and Aviation System Block Upgrade (ASBU) Symposium 2016 was successfully held at the CercleNational de l’Armée Beni Messous Algiers, Algeria, from 04 to 06 September 2016The Symposium was attended by a total of Eighty nine (89) participants from Six (06)ACAC States (Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Sudan), Six (06) Organizations (ACAC, CANSO, ICAO, EUROCONTROL, IFALPA, IFATCA) and four (04) Airlines (Air Algerie, Tassili air lines, Royal Air Maroc, Air Express)The main objective of the Symposium is to expedite the ASBU Block 0 implementation in the ACAC Region with a focus on the North African States accredited to the ICAOEUR/NAT Office (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) by providing necessary assistance and foster the involvement and collaboration of all concerned stakeholders (Regulators, Air Navigation Service Providers, Aerodrome Operators, Aircraft Operators, InternationalOrganizations and Industry) The Symposium offers an opportunity whereby all air navigation stakeholders work together towards harmonized ASBU implementation activities across States and RegionsThe participants discussed the regional Air Navigation priorities and targets incorporating not only the needs of airspace users, the different regionaltechnology/infrastructure baselines, but also the interoperability of air navigation systems, major traffic flows and cost‐effectiveness considerations. The Symposium also helps participants to better understand their roles/ tasks/ responsibilities in the implementation of the ASBU modulesA specific training session on the Environmental State Action Plans was also part of the Symposium
