The CASE II workshop on “testing and certification of aviation security equipment” took place in Abu Dhabi on 12 and 13 June 2023. The workshop was jointly organised by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), as the implementing organisation of the European Union-funded CASE II Project, and the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO). It was hosted by the General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The event was opened by the Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority of the United Arab Emirates, the Ambassador of the European Union to the UAE, the Director General of ACAO and the Executive Secretary of ECAC. All acknowledged the importance of this initiative and highlighted the good partnership and excellent coordination between the different stakeholders in strengthening civil aviation.
More than 60 participants from 16 ACAO Member States, organisations and industry stakeholders participated, exchanging information and best practices during the workshop, where presentations were given by ten international experts.
The main objective of this workshop was to share experience on the testing and certification of aviation security equipment as well as to exchange views and good practices on:
- designing technical specifications, including performance standards, for security equipment;
- laboratory testing for the purpose of approval and certification of equipment;
- operational testing and on-site acceptance of aviation security equipment; and
- maintenance and procurement procedures.
It also included a discussion about challenges faced in the selection and deployment of security equipment and a session on the latest developments regarding screening technologies.
