The Arab aviation community celebrates on the seventh (7th) February of each year the Arab Civil Aviation Day, which coincides with the anniversary of the establishment of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, after it was officially approved by the governing bodies of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization and by the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action of the Arab League of States.
This day is intended to shed the light on the importance of civil aviation in the social and economic development of the organization’s member states, as well as to introduce the importance of the latter’s role in providing civil aviation authorities with a framework for joint action and developing general planning for civil aviation among Arab countries, in order to strengthen and secure its safety, and to promote due cooperation and coordination between member states in the field of civil aviation. It also aims at laying the foundations for the latter in terms of standardization, as well as working on the growth and development of Arab civil aviation.
The celebration of this day is also an opportunity to review the prospects for the development of Arab and regional air transport, given that the transport sector is the economic lifeline of our time and one of the most important requirements for progress and development as well as one of the most important pillars of international trade and tourism activities and the link between various countries of the world. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous achievements of Arab civil aviation in various fields of cooperation.
Celebrating the Arab Civil Aviation Day this year is also an opportunity to highlight the role played by the Arab Civil Aviation Organization at the level of the Arab region in terms of air transport development and in terms of coordination efforts initiated between Arab countries within the framework of joint Arab action.
The aviation sector is not a new economic sector. It is a sector that has gone through many crises, which made it gain sufficient flexibility in facing them and standing back again on its feet. Aviation is still the distinguishing feature that connects people, places, culture and trade. Its development in the future can help a lot in consolidating friendship and understanding between the nations and peoples of the world.
The Arab Civil Aviation Organization, since its establishment on February 7, 1996, has worked in accordance with the objectives entrusted to it, to open up to international and regional organizations by signing several agreements and memorandums of understanding and cooperation, to unify their programs of activities and mechanisms of work, and to define priorities of interest to enhance air transport, its safety and security, Increasing capacity and air navigation efficiency, protecting the aviation environment, and also preventing duplication and unifying efforts in the region. The organization also ensures integration and coordination between the civil aviation authorities of the member states and cooperates with ICAO within the framework of its legislative and executive bodies.
Aware of the important role played by the air transport sector in the sustainable development of Member States, and also seeking to advance the sector’s institutions to strive for excellence at the regional and global levels, the organization will continue its work in terms of proposing plans, programs and initiatives that support the sector and raise its productivity and its ability to withstand crises, in order to preserve its achievements, and continues to exert further efforts towards modernization and development, and to strengthen the mechanism for joint cooperation among Arab countries, and towards Arab reunion, as the Arab house of expertise, so that we can face major challenges that can only be faced within a coherent and unified Arab framework with strong determination and high professionalism.
