Date : 12:03 / 04-08-2022

The Arab Civil Aviation Organization and the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, a scientific symposium to unify the project of the Standardized Dictionary of Civil Aviation Terms, in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Abdennebi Manar, Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization and Dr abdelfattah hajemri, Director of the Arabization Coordination Office in Rabat under the Arab Organization for Education, culture and Science and with the valuable participation of expert reviewers of the glossary from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Lebanese Republic, the Republic of Sudan and the Kingdom of Morocco, in addition to a group of experts from the two organizations.

During the opening of the symposium, His Excellency Eng. Manar welcomed the participants and thanked them for their noble efforts to produce a glossary of civil aviation terms in Arabic, French and English. He praised the work done and called on experts and interested parties to continue enriching and updating the dictionary with the necessary and updated terms in the field.

For his part, Dr. Abdelfattah hajemri conveyed the greetings and appreciation of His Excellency the Director-General of ALECSO Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar to all the participants in this scientific meeting, noting the importance of cooperation between the two organizations and their aspiration to implement similar projects that respond in essence to Article Eleven of the Cultural Treaty as approved by the Council of the League of Arab States in 1945, and the provisions of the Charter of Cultural Unity, which was approved by the League’s Council in 1964, in order to strive to unify scientific and civilizational terminology and support the translation and Arabization movement.

During the symposium, many technical terms were discussed, and experts exchanged opinions, and the appropriate ones were finally chosen.

It is worth mentioning that the preparation of the draft unified dictionary of civil aviation terms draws on a number of previous dictionaries and added to them new terms after the preparation and coordination team reviewed a set of sources, references, glossaries and dictionaries, including the reports of some international organizations to find out all the terms related to the aviation and air navigation sector, taking into account both the international and the Arab dimension within the framework of the development of aviation systems worldwide.

At the conclusion of the symposium, experts recommended printing the glossary and making it available to interested parties and researchers.
