Paris - On October 22, 2020, a joint workshop held using the WebEx platform on the National Action Plan on CO2 Emission and the carbon offsetting and reduction scheme for international aviation (CORSIA) brought together the European and North Atlantic Regional Office of the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.

This workshop was designed to benefit Maghreb countries, namely: the Republic of Tunisia, the People´s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and the Kingdom of Morocco. Twenty participants representing aviation authorities, airlines and airports took part in it.

This workshop reviewed the requirements related to the procedures that must be included in the national action plan on CO2 emissions, and the tools for adapting national regulatory frameworks in relation to the national action plan. In this context, the representatives of the three countries discussed the progress made in preparing their National Action Plans.

During this workshop, the latest developments related to the carbon offsetting and reduction scheme in the field of international aviation (CORSIA) were reviewed. This workshop falls within the framework of the joint action plan 2019-2022 between the Arab Civil Aviation Organization and the ICAO Regional Office for Europe and North Atlantic, which aims at contributing to capacity building and provision of technical support and assistance to member states.
