Rabat - The Arab Civil Aviation Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) organized a webinar on "Aviation Systems Block Upgrades" ´package (ASBU)" from 13 to 15 October 2020. 251 participants from 20 countries in addition to six (06) international organizations (ACAO, IFALPA, IFATCA, ICAO, IATA, CANSO) joined the webinar.
This webinar falls within the strategic plan of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization. It aims at providing the participants with the most important events and developments in global air navigation and to present ICAO´s methodology for ASBU packages in accordance with the sixth edition of the Global Air Navigation Plan through an online demo using the GANP portal with identification of priority elements and Key Performance Indicators (KPI). The symposium also explored ways and means to support the implementation of agreed air navigation priorities, taking into account the requirements of airspace users, fleet equipment, infrastructure, interoperability, inter-regional coordination, and addressing regional and national planning issues.
Eng.Mohammed Al-Samawi, Acting Regional Director of the ICAO Middle East Office, opened the webinar where he welcomed the participants and reminded the attendees that this symposium was scheduled face-to-face during the month of March 2020 in Cairo, and then postponed to the first quarter of 2021 due to travel restrictions amidst the new Corona pandemic. Given the importance of the topic, it was agreed to hold a webinar on the latest developments in Aviation Systems Block Upgrades Package (ASBU).
On his part, His Excellency Eng. Abdenbi Manar, Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, welcomed the participants and thanked the International Civil Aviation Organization for its fruitful cooperation and its keenness to coordinate with the Arab Civil Aviation Organization for the implementation and joint organization of the symposium on the subject case. He also extended special thanks to all representatives of international and regional organizations participating in the symposium for their continuous support to joint activities in the context of raising the level of safety in the Arab region.
