Tunisia - Republic of Tunisia 17 and 18 July 2019

In the keenness of the General Directorate of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization to consolidate and strengthen coordination and cooperation with international and regional organizations and bodies and to promote joint Arab action, the Arab Civil Aviation Organization participated in the fifth meeting of the Commission for Meteorology held in Tunis, Tunisia on 17 and 18 July 2019.


The meeting was attended by 25 participants from  9 Member States of the Arab League representing the People´s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Tunisia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, State of Kuwait, State of Libya, State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Yemen and three international organizations represented by the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, the World Meteorological Organization and the Arab League.

Mr. Hedi Al-Aqrabi Al-Jawadi, Director General of the National Meteorological Institute and Vice Chairman of the Permanent Arab Meteorological Committee, inaugurated the opening session, welcomed the participants, and wished them successful works. Mr. Hussein Al-Momani, Head of the Meteorological Department of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Chairman of the Permanent Arab Meteorological Committee, Mr. Habib Al-Makki, Director General of Tunisian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Ashraf Nour SHALABY, the Regional Coordinator for Climate Change and Meteorology at the Arab League, Dr. Hesham Abdel Ghani, the representative of the World Meteorological Organization, and Mr. Mohamed Rejeb, representative of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization attended the opening session as well as the representatives of ACAO Member Sates mentioned above.

 

During the meeting, all the recommendations adopted since the previous meeting, were followed up, especially those relating to mechanisms for the enhancement of meteorological services for air navigation, aviation safety, private sector entry into the meteorological system and the possibility of unifying meteorological satellite imagery systems to overcome over-pricing and costs maintenance of these systems.

 

In the same perspective, the representative of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) made a presentation on the "ASBU blocks" focusing mainly on the implementation aspects of the AMET module for block 0 and also for blocks 1,2 and 3.
