On the 22 and 23 May 2019 in Dakar, Senegal, the 5th Meeting of the Steering Committee gathered 35 participants from AUC, EC, AFCAC, ACAO, ASECNA, ICAO and regional economic communities Recs.
This 5th JPO SC Meeting was co-chaired by EU Delegation to the AU, Mr. Francisco Carreras Sequeros, Head of Cooperation and Mr Cheikh Ould Bedda, Director of Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union Commission.
This intensive two-day but fruitful working sessions enabled SC Members to address the various aspects of the work programme and to make the necessary recommendations to fast-track the implementation of the Action, this as per their main mandate to oversee and validate the overall strategic direction and policy of The Action "Support to the Joint Programme Office (JPO)"
The 5th Meeting was an opportunity for ASCENA, European Commission´s consultant and another involved stockholders in GNSS to share their experience regarding the implementation of satellite navigation in Africa and the Indian Ocean, the readiness of the European satellite system (Galileo and EGNOS) and applications based on the satellite system.
It is worth mentioning that the Arab Civil Aviation Organization includes ten Arab African countries.
